The world believed that he was retired until March 12, 2013 proved everyone wrong. David Bowie, after a decade of musical and public silence, reemerged to celebrate his 66th birthday by releasing a single that was the prelude to a 14-track album.

The single released on Bowie’s birthday, “Where Are We Now?” led us to believe that his upcoming album would have a mellow, slow, and relaxed feel to it. Which wasn’t bad, considering that Bowie’s voice is just as we all remember it—a deep timber that can surprise you at every turn and always with a British flair. But I was pleasantly surprised when he released another single, “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)” which has a much more pop sound to it.
